Betterinv connects to steam and the cs2 gameservers using mostly open source libraries to get all items from your inventory and storage containers. This can not be done from a server, so this has to be done from a desktop application.
To be completely honest: not sure yet. I am looking for ways to cover our costs while still making Betterinv accessible for as many users as possible. There will always be a generous free tier, and if I find a way to cover costs without subscriptions, it will stay completely free.
No. Betterinv uses the same connections to steams servers that the game uses as well, and every other simmilar service uses the same technology. I am very confident that valve will not ban your account for using Betterinv. In fact, Betterinv was initially developed as a private tool, and I still use it for my own accounts.
Yes! No. Maybe? Jokes aside, your steam account is completely safe from us. Your login credentials never leave your system. Only a refresh token is stored, and that happens in a secure storage on your device. Did you know that our whole desktop application is open source and you can check it yourself for security concerns?
When it is ready. Beta is meant to help me find and fix all remaining bugs, before opening up to a wider audience. When the application is in a good state, it will get a full 1.0 release.
